ABOUT

CLEVER GIRAFFE

I've always had a passion for clothes - all the patterns, bright colors, textures, styles! Before I started CG, sometimes I'd buy things at stores just because they were gorgeous not because they fit me. I'd think, "I can find someone who wears this size; I'll give it to them" I love how the right outfit can just make you feel like a million bucks.

I started out with no vision at Twisted Tree Vintage Market in July of 2017 in a small 4'x 6' end cap booth in the very back of the store. I had always wanted a little shop ever since I learned of the concept. I originally thought I was going to make small upcycled crafts turning broken items into things I could sell. Meanwhile, I had also been selling my clothing off & on using eBay & other resell platforms for several years. On a whim, I decided to bring in a rack of my clothes & see if anything would sell. Oh, and they did!  I started thrifting a little & adding in different size varieties including plus sizes. I'm not exactly sure of the timeline but a month or two later, a 10'x 6' booth became available at the front of the store & the owner at the time told me she thought I should move to that booth. She said something along the lines of "you'll be more visible & can add more clothing" - I was very hesitant because it was a lot of extra money for something that I didn't originally plan to do.  After a lot of thought, I decided to give the larger booth a shot. I slowly added in friends clothing & referrals for consignment & 3 1/2 years later here I am with 65 consignors,  four - 10'x 6' booths at Twisted Tree & several other locations under my belt. In that time span, I've been in Royal Roosters Trading Post & Greasy Spoon in New Hope, Boneyard Antiques in Athens (RIP) & University Pickers in Huntsville since September of 2019. Most recently I've expanded into the Birmingham market in November of 2020 and have a booth at University Pickers newest location in Leeds in The Outlet Shops of Grand River.  What a roller coaster it has been!

I work HARD to make CG successful. Not a lot of people know that CG is my side business - they think CG is my full time job - because it is a full time job! I work CG before work, after work, & the weekends. There is no downtime owning a business. It sure is rewarding though!  I LOVE hearing stories about how CG makes women like shopping again & how some ladies think CG consignment is the best around. It makes all my hard work, countless hours spent sourcing, cleaning, mending, inventorying, pricing, advertising & selling "worth it"!

Of course none of this would be possible without Clever Giraffe's customers, our #1 fans, biggest supporters - thank you from the bottom of my heart for your positive reviews, referrals, & even constructive criticism. Every little bit is appreciated. Not only are you supporting me & my business dream, but also you're helping 65 local ladies by giving them a little extra money.

Special thanks to friends & family who have helped CG grow over the years - from painting booths, building racks & fixtures, to working events, hauling around clothes, hanging up clothes, modeling & helping in live sales, & more! I could not have done it without you!

Clever Giraffe's mission is to provide women of all shapes & sizes affordable, stylish, & trendy clothing without the department store price tag. Saving the world one pair of white pants at a time!

Please look around & let me know if you have any questions.

Love,

Stephanie
